We've cleaned more than 6,000 empty apartments in New York. Patterns emerge quickly: most deposit deductions come from the same handful of spots that are easy to miss when you are surrounded by boxes.

The seven places inspectors always check

  • Inside the oven and under the burners
  • Inside the fridge, including the seals
  • Bathroom grout and the base of the toilet
  • Window tracks and sills
  • Tops of doors and door frames
  • Inside kitchen cabinets and drawers
  • Walls around light switches

Photograph each one after cleaning, with a timestamp. If a dispute ever comes up, a dated photo is worth more than any receipt.

“Clean the places nobody looks — because the inspector always does.”

Timing is everything

Book your move-out clean for after the movers leave but at least a day before the inspection. That leaves time for a touch-up if something slips — our deposit-back guarantee covers a free return visit.
